Gangs

If you’re worried about your child being part of a gang, it can be daunting and difficult to know how to help them.

The first thing to say is that Derby is a safe city and there are very few young people truly involved in gangs.  It may be helpful to understand what a gang is as there is a big difference between young people involved in a gang and young people who have started associating with a negative peer group.  Our ‘What is a gang?’ page explains this further.

Where young people are involved with a gang, it can be a frightening experience for them and they are likely to need support.  They may be subjected to pressure to remain in the gang and they could be subjected to violence or pressured into committing criminal offences.

If you’re concerned that your child may be involved in a gang or may be considering becoming so, we have compiled advice on how to have the conversation with them to start the process of supporting them.
