There are many misconceptions about carrying a knife. Carrying a knife can mean up to four years in prison, even if you don’t use it.

Is there a safe place to stab someone?

No, there is no ‘safe place’ to stab someone – any stab can be fatal and the consequences will be just as severe.

Are people who carry a weapon safer?

No, people who carry a weapon are more likely to be hospitalised with an injury caused by violence.

Does the size of the knife matter?

Even small knives can kill. So even if you don’t intend to injure someone badly, you could easily end up killing them.

Are there lots of young people carrying knives?

No – 99% of young people aged 10–29 don’t carry a knife.
